COASTWEEK
- - SOMETIMES finding a lost file can be very frustrating
when you really need it.
Here is how to find that file:
• Hit the 'Start' button.
• Select 'Find' from the menu.
• Select 'Files or Folders' from the menu.
• Select which drive the file is located in.
• Make sure the box that says, 'include subfolders' is checked.
• If you know the name of the file, enter it in the 'Named:' area.
Then click on the 'Find Now' button.
• If you don't know the name of the file, but know that it
contains a string of text, then enter that text into the 'Containing
Text:' area. Click on the 'Find Now' button.
• Windows will now look for all files and return a list of files
that closely match your query.
• Look through the list of files displayed for your file.
• Double click on your file and it will be opened in your default
application for that file.
TIPS: If you
know the file type, but not the name, you can find all files by
entering a wild card (*) instead of the file name. (that is*.txt).
If you know the date the file was created, you can
search for files created on a certain date by clicking on the Date
tab.
Another important thing about computers is to know
your memory performance.
After you have had your computer awhile, often you
will forget how much RAM is installed on your system.
This is important to know specially when you are
buying software which may require more memory to run it.
Here's how to check the Ram or memory you presently
have on your computer.
• Go to your desktop.
• Place your mouse cursor over the 'My Computer' Icon.
• Click on your right mouse button.
• From the pop up menu, select 'Properties'.
• The 'General Tab' should already be selected for you.
• Towards the bottom and to the right, you will see the
manufacturer of the computer, the brand of processor, then the
amount of RAM installed.
• Click the cancel button.
TIPS: If this
information isn't listed on the 'General Tab' then click on the
Performance Tab.
The amount of RAM is also listed there.
It is best to contact your local computer dealer to
upgrade your RAM or probably your motherboard and processor to keep
your computer upto date with the new software's and operating
systems like Microsoft XP.
Next week we shall talk about how to clean up your
computer to optimize it's performance.
