MARHUM MAHMOUD ADAM
HE
WAS A FATHER, FRIEND AND MUSLIM
POLITICAL LEADER TO ALL OF US IN CANADA
Coastweek
- - Once again on behalf of the
Kenya Community in Toronto, Canada, I would like to express our
sympathies to the family of the late Mahmoud Adam.
Al-Marhum Mahmoud Adam
was a Father, Friend, Muslim and a Political leader to all of us in
Toronto, Canada. While in Kenya, the late Mahmoud Adam had vied for
Parliamentary seats in Nakuru, Mathare and contested these seats with
the likes of Mark Mwithaga, Dr. Waiyaki and the late Ngumba.
He later shifted his
political base to Voi where his family had business interests and was
elected a councilor for several terms.
While in Canada, the
late M. Adam played very crucial roles in bringing Multi-party
Democracy in our beloved country of Kenya.
He joined hands with
other Kenyans (such as David O. Oloo and others) in spearheading
Demonstrations and meetings to bring socio-political changes in Kenya.
He sacrificed his time, money and health during these events.
I still remember when we
traveled to Ottawa to demonstrate in front of the Kenya High
Commission during the winter of 1989.
While on our return trip
to Toronto, the late M. Adam's sugar dropped significantly and we had
no medical expertise to attend to his needs.
Once again, on behalf of
all our comrades in Canada, I would like to inform the Kenyans at
large, that a "Giant" has fallen in Kenya politics in
Canada.
There are many people
who did "fight" for changes abroad, they may not be known to
many Kenyans, or have the political background as the likes of Odinga,
Matiba, Imanyara and others, nevertheless they played crucial roles
which only History and time will tell.
- Abdalla
Alwi Bafagih, Toronto, Canada.
