Kenyan Maia Von Lekow is star performer at Zanzibar Festival

.

ZANZIBAR Tanzania (Xinhua) -- Kenyan musical artist Maia Von Lekow performs at a standing-room-only concert during the 2018 Sauti Za Busara music festival in Stone Town, Zanzibar, Tanzania. This week the islanders have been performing in a colourful carnival parade as warm-up activities for this popular event. This 14th edition of the Sauti za Busara festival began mid-week with the expectation of promoting cultural tourism in Tanzania’s semi-autonomous Zanzibar archipelago. One prominent African music critic notes: "Maia represents another amazing side to Kenya’s dynamic musical scene. Her voice and style has an affinity with female jazz vocalists of the 1930s and soul and folk music of the 1960s." Maia Von Lekow is the daughter of famous Mombasa born singer and entertainer Sal Davis - who has also been known to play a good game of golf at the Nyali Golf and country club.
