Continued CMF, EU NAVFOR Co-operation off Somalia coasts | Coastweek

EU NAVFOR’s Spanish Warship ESPS Patiño met up on the 23rd December, with CTF151 Pakistan Warship PNS Tippu Sultan, to continue counter-piracy operations at sea off the Somali Coast.Their cooperation in this major maritime trade route is no coincidence. To maintain durability and a presence even through the festive season, the respective counter-piracy missions still work together to ensure these vital sea lanes remain open and free from piracy. On this occasion the ESPS Patiño used its capability as an oiler to refuel the PNS Tippu Sultan whilst at sea to ensure the deterrence to repress piracy remains. The ESPS Patiño also has a SH-60 Sea King helicopter, which can be used for a multitude of purposes when deployed. PNS Tippu Sultan is currently tasked as part of Combined Task Force 151, a Combined Maritime Forces counter-piracy mission commanded from Bahrain. PHOTOS - EU NAVFOR

In an impressive commitment to CMF’s team, and far from their home base back in New Zealand, the Kingswood’s crew have flown over thousands of miles over the Indian ocean in CMF’s area of operations, gathering vital intelligence and undertaking hugely valuable surveillance and reconnaissance operations (ISR). Spanish MPRA Passes 10000 Flying Hours for EU NAVFOR Counter-Piracy Operations | Coastweek

DJIBOUTI EUNAVFOR -- Spanish MPRA Passes 10000 Flying Hours for EU NAVFOR Counter-Piracy Operations: The Spanish Maritime Patrol Reconnaissance Aircrafts (MPRA) in Djibouti, reached this major milestone shortly after nine years of continual support to EU NAVFOR. The highly capable Orion P-3C can operate either alone or in coordination with other assets including EU NAVFOR’s helicopters and warships. It can use its inherent flexibility, speed, reach, and response time, to assist maritime vessels under pirate attack. Both Spain and Germany have deployed MPRAs to the Somali coast since the start of Operation Atalanta. The expertise gained by their respective crews is a key factor contributing to the success of the EU NAVFOR Operation. The Spanish Orion detachment, under the Command of Lieutenant Colonel Javier Caballero Calzada, flew past the figure of 10,000 flight hours earlier this month. This is the 30th time a new flight crew has taken control of the MPRA and the 56th time the supporting detachment has changed in the last nine years. PHOTOS - EUNAVFOR
