Coastweek --
WAJUKUU
ART
CENTER
was started in 2004 by a group of
young artists living in Mukuru slums in Nairobi.
Their
main objective is to develop children and
youth talents within their community and to
provide a space for children.
The
work on show here is the outcome of a 6 months
(2 days/week ) training given to 27 children
between 6 and 17 years.
Childrens
selection is based on motivation and family
back-ground with an emphasize on kids facing
difficulties within their environment.
There
are various art classes ranging from the use
of char-coal, initiation to drawings, use of colours
to painting on canvas.
More
than 30 works will be on display and the proceeds from
this exhibition will fund future projects in the
Mukuru community.
