This
is one of the four exhibitions lined up by
the center this last quarter of the year
showcasing contemporary art.
Adam
specializes in water painting on canvas and
palette knife art skill and has
distinguished himself as a prolific painter
inspired by the unique scenic surroundings
on his native Lamu island Old Town, with
it's rich Swahili cultural trappings that
led to it's declaration as a World Heritage
Site in 2001.
He
started using his artistic talents at a
tender age by painting portraits and
landscapes inside Lamu's cafes and
restaurants.
He
subsequently participated and won in Inter
District Art Competitions, which led to his
first major showcase in 1988:the decoration
of the Lamu District Agricultural Stand at
the Mombasa ASK Show.
He
has never looked back since.
He
attributes his success to the training
opportunities that helped him hone his
skills including participation of Kuona
Trust workshops in 1997 and 1998 and others
that have inspired him in his new found
expression specializing in both the
Realistic Art and the Abstract forms of
painting.
Adam
has featured in art exhibitions organized
nationally and has also mounted a number of
private ones at the Fort Jesus Museum and at
Lamu Fort Museum including Wasani
International Art workshop at Lamu Fort,
2004, Mombasa Agricultural show Lamu stand
from 1988-2005, Lamu Museum during Maulid
Festivals 1999 and during Millennium 2000 at
Lamu Museum among others.
His
paintings are prominent attractions in major
hotel reception lounges in Lamu, receiving
admiration from the many visitors docking in
the town.
This makes
Adam one of the most recognizable
contemporary artists from the island. |
