KIGALI, (Xinhua) --
Burundi Foreign Minister Ezechiel Nibigira and
Chinese Ambassador to Burundi Li Changlin jointly kicked off a
friendly football match in Bujumbura, capital of Burundi, on
Saturday to mark the 55th anniversary of the
establishment of diplomatic ties between Burundi and China.
One of the two teams
came from the Chinese community in Burundi and the other from
the Burundian civil servants. Nibigira and Li presented trophies
to the two teams after the match. The Chinese embassy gave the
Burundian side footballs as gifts.
As a Chinese saying
goes, “Amity between the people holds the key to sound
state-to-state relations.” Li told Xinhua that the Chinese
embassy expects, through Burundi’s popular sport activity
football, to create a friendly atmosphere, close the distance
and strengthen solidarity between the two countries.
China and Burundi
established the diplomatic ties on Dec. 21, 1963. A series of
events have been held to celebrate the anniversary.
