Agriculcure holds great potential for
Ghana’s economic transformation: FAO

ACCRA, (Xinhua) -- Agriculture should be put in the lead as Ghana endeavors to achieve its desired economic transformation, according to an official of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

“The transformation that is so much desired for the Ghanaian economy can be driven by the agricultural sector through a well-coordinated strategic investment approach,” said Abebe Haile-Gabriele, FAO Assistant Director General and Regional Representative for Africa, at a national stakeholder dialogue on financing the agriculture sector on Thursday.

Ghana’s economy has about 70 percent contribution from the private sector. “These teaming business communities are profit oriented and will most likely seek to invest in promising agricultural ventures along the value chains once the needed enablers and marketing outlets are stimulated,” he said.

Haile-Gabriel commended the government of Ghana for working hard over the years to create the needed enabling environment and stimulating private sector investments through numerous initiatives.
