NAIROBI (Xinhua) --
Kenya’s veterinary officials said Tuesday they
are developing a strategy on the donkey value chain.
deputy director of veterinary services at the State Department
for Livestock, said that the strategy will streamline
production, upkeep, welfare, movement and breeding.
“We are developing
donkeys’ strategy since they are useful animal but their
contribution to the national economy and support to humans is
not well recorded,” Cheruiyot said during the launch of Alliance
for Donkey Welfare Organizations in Kenya (ADWOK) in Nairobi.
Cheruiyot said the
government is currently applying modern methods of breeding
including artificial insemination to help improve the population
of the animal.
