Simon Mwasela Honoured for 34 Years Service to Mombasa Bowls

Coastweek -- October is the month when Kenya Bowling Association Licensed Singles and 2x2 Pairs championships are hosted here in Mombasa.

This year we had a bumper entry of 18 Participants in the Licensed Singles and 14 Pairs in the 2x2 Pairs.

It was played from 20th October 2018 to 22nd October 2018.

Mombasa had 7 entrants in the Licensed Singles and 8 Pairs in the 2x2 Pairs.

The rest of the teams came from Karen, Limuru, Nairobi and Ruiru Clubs.

The Sunny weather throughout the said weekend was a blessing to us.

The Opening Ceremony was graced by our Senator Hon Mohamed Faki and the Mombasa County Sports CEO.

During the Ceremony, Simon Mwasela our former Green Attendant was presented with a set of Woods by our Club Assistant Manager Mrs. Valerie for his 34 years of Service to the Bowling Section.

He is now based in Voi and bowls in our National Championships on a regular basis in Nairobi and Mombasa.

We wish him all the very best for his future.

In the Singles Championships, the 18 Participants were divided into 4 Leagues.

The league games were played on day 1 and 2 with Quarter Finals finishing day 2.

Our Mombasa Bowlers Vijay Bij, Deepak Vyas and Jaleel Syed were the only ones who sailed through to the Quarters.

But unfortunately none proceeded into the semi finals.

Joseph Kitosi (Karen) Benson Wambugu (Karen) James Ngugi (Limuru) and Cephas Kimwaki( Limuru) were the semi finalists who played on Monday 22nd October 2018.

Cephas Kimwaki and James Ngugi sailed to the Finals. Cephas Kimwaki was crowned the Champ with James Ngugi settling in as the runner up.

In the 2x2 Pairs Championship, the 14 teams were divided into 4 leagues. League games were played on the Day 1 and 2.

The 2 Mombasa teams which reached the quarter finals were Ali Jeneby and Zahra Syed  & Deepak Vyas and Zarak Rana.

And to add icing on the cake…Ali and Zahra played well to proceed to semi finals.

But met the Limuru Giants James Ngugi and Christine Mbae who showed no mercy and defeated them to sail to the finals.

Finals were between Limuru and Karen. Joseph Kitosi and Rispah Waithira (Karen) and James Ngugi and Christine Mbae (Limuru).

Karen won to claim the Gold and Limuru settled for the Silver.
