Namibia rugby team off to Kenya for tourney

WINDHOEK Namibia (Xinhua) -- Namibian National Sevens Rugby Team will depart on Wednesday for Kenya to feature in 20-team tournament between November 9 and 11.

Ranked one of the best teams in the continent the Rugby team will battle it out in the tournament composed of both African and international teams.

The Sevens team also received a shot in arm for the tournament following a kit sponsorship by Namibia Breweries Limited Tuesday.

The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) president, Corrie Mensah during his address expressed gratefulness at NBL for stepping on board and supporting the team in this tournament. “We are extremely grateful for the support which is a definite boost for the team to make Namibia proud and we look forward to a great future in our relationship with NBL,” Mensah said.

Namibia rugby squad to tackle Europe tour

WINDHOEK Namibia (Xinhua) -- Namibia Rugby on Tuesday said the final selected team for the Europe Tour includes 28 players and 8 management personnel.

Namibia’s senior rugby team arrived on Sunday in Russia and their first hurdle is against the hosts, on Saturday November. 10 in Krasnodar, with games against Spain following on November 17 and final match against Portugal on November 24.

Namibia Rugby in a statement on Tuesday said the team’s program for the week mainly consists of gym sessions in the morning, physio and on field rugby training in the afternoon. The team will have one day’s rest on Wednesday.

The 28 players for the tour includes: Andre Rademeyer, Casper Viviers, Desiderius Sethie, Jason Benade, A J De Klerk, Obert Nortje, Niel Van Vuuren, Tjiuee Uanivi, Ruan Ludick, Adriaan Ludick, Thomasau Forbes, Max Katjijeko Renaldo Bothma, Prince Goaseb, Rohan Kitshoff (VC), Damian Stevens, Wihan von Wielligh, Cliven Loubser, PW Steenkamp, Henrique Olivier, Darryl de la Harpe ( C), JC Greyling, Janry Du Toit, Johann Tromp, Chrysander Botha, Chad Plato, TC Kisting and Justin Newman.
