Rwanda coach confident ahead of Cote d’Ivoire clash

KIGALI (Xinhua) -- Rwanda head coach Vincent Mashami has expressed confidence ahead of Sunday’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations Group H qualifier against Cote d’Ivoire.

“The Cote d’Ivoire team is in good form with renowned players, but I have confidence in my team,” Mashami told reporters here on Saturday. “It has been a while since we played a major game, but we are ready to do our best to win Sunday’s match.”

The Rwanda squad includes skipper Haruna Niyonzima, goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera of South African side Free State Stars, and striker Dany Usengimana, who turns out for Singida United in Tanzania.

Others include Salomon Nirisarike of Belgian side AFC Tubize, Djihad Bizimana, who also plays in Belgium with Beveren, Faustin Usengimana of Kuwait’s Khitan Sport Club, and Patrick Sibomana, who turns out for Shakhtyor FC in Belarus.

However, the team will be without Gor Mahia striker Jacques Tuyisenge due to injury.

Rwanda need a win on Sunday to boost their qualification prospects, having lost their first Group H game 2-1 against the Central African Republic in June last year.

Along with Cote d’Ivoire and the Central African Republic, the other side to face Rwanda in Group H is Guinea.
