Lions Mombasa Pwani Ladies Uplift Community’s Less Fortunate

Coastweek -- A blind lady Caroline Odipo was accorded a sewing machine by Lions Club of Mombasa Pwani ladies.

Her elder son will use it to derive income for the family.

Lions Club of Mombasa Pwani’s major activity for August was to Shimo Main Borstal Institution.

800 meters of cloth worth K.Shs. 132,000/-, was donated by Lion Ketki Shah to Borstal Juvenile Institution.

Uniforms for 400 boys will be stitched. This institution was set up in 1965 and is funded by the government.

It houses 327 children between the ages of 12years to 18 year old (juvenile /child offenders) and gives them a platform to reform and later lead a respectable life.

They have schooling from Std. 7 till Form 4. 

The children are further trained in various fields, carpentry, tailoring, metal works, building, electrical and horticulture.

When they leave they are awarded certificate of good conduct.

ASP Mr. Adero Omondi of Borstal Institution thanked the Lions Club of Mombasa Pwani and Mr. Vinod Dattani the Activity Co-coordinator, who is also Head of State Commendation Board Member for their mammoth donation.

Thirdly, the Tuliza Community are opening a school for one hundred street children were given stationery worth 13,000/-

This is a donation by an anonymous donor.

90 metres of uniform material was further given. This was for 38,600/-.

Four wheelchairs for their disabled were provided as well.

Lastly, Tumaini Nyanje a TB patient from Kinango was also given a wheelchair and 2,200/- cash. Thank you all.
