NAIROBI, (Xinhua) --
Kenya will invite the United States and eight
other foreign teams to compete in the annual Safari Sevens rugby
tournament in November.
Kenya Rugby Union
Chief Executive Sylvia Kamau is certain that all the invited
teams will honor the call and compete in the three-day
tournament, which will be held in Nairobi from Nov. 9-11.
Among the teams that
have been asked to send their squads include Portugal, Namibia,
Ireland, Wales, South Africa, Spain, USA and Uganda. Kenya will
use the tournament to gauge its preparedness ahead of the start
of the World Series in Dubai in December.
The team finished
with highest-ever points from last year’s campaign claiming a
total of 104 points under coach Innocent Simiyu.
The last time in
2003, Kenya finished in position six with 99 points then guided
by current USA coach Mike Friday.
“We have sent
invitation to teams like Portugal, Namibia, Ireland, Wales,
South Africa, Spain, Uganda, Samoa, University of Johannesburg
and Western Province. Looking at the invitation also is USA
Sevens who are looking at giving us a team even if it’s their
second side,” said Kamau.
