(Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Sun
Baohong on Thursday commended Kenyan First Lady Margaret
Kenyatta for her vision of advocating for quality healthcare for
the citizens, especially women and children.
Sun said China has been impressed by
the work of the First Lady and that China is ready to scale up
its partnership with the Beyond Zero Initiative to achieve the

forthcoming Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in
Beijing in September also pledged to offer support by
facilitating the training of midwives to boost maternity
She revealed that the First Lady of
China, Professor Peng Liyuan, has organized a program which will
run concurrently with the summit, and during which Margaret will
give a key-note address. The theme of program to be hosted by
the Chinese First Lady will be “The AIDS Prevention and Control
Sun said Margaret’s consistent
leadership in the fight against HIV/AIDS is known worldwide and
that her commitment towards elimination of mother-to-child
transmission of the HIV virus sets a good example that should be
emulated by other nations.
Speaking during the meeting, the First
Lady expressed her gratitude to the Chinese envoy, saying for
the last four years the embassy has been a strong supporter of
the Beyond Zero campaign.
She singled out various medical
equipment which the Beyond Zero has received including the most
recent specialized medical equipment worth 150,000 U.S. dollars.
The specialized pieces of medical
equipment, which included infusion pumps and microinjection
pumps, were donated during the launch of the second strategic
plan for the ‘Beyond Zero’ initiative and are installed in six
health facilities in Nairobi and Tana River counties.
“We thank you for what you have done
in the past and look forward for more collaboration. I also look
forward for the visit to China and present my views on the
HIV/AIDS,” said the First Lady.
