Kenya pledges greater youth involvement in development blueprint

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Kenya will tap into entrepreneurial skills of the youth to hasten implementation of its major growth agenda, officials said on Friday ahead of World Youth Day to be marked on Sunday.

Margaret Kobia, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth and Gender Affairs, said enactment of youth friendly policies and legislation will enhance their contribution to the country’s socio-economic transformation agenda.

“We are committed to holistic development of the youth and harnessing their innovations is key to realize the Big Four Agenda and vision 2030 goals,” Kobia remarked.

She spoke at an International Youth Day preparatory summit organized by UN agencies that sought to elevate the visibility of this demographic in efforts to achieve the green and sustainability agenda.

President Uhuru Kenyatta will on Sunday grace the International Youth Day celebrations in the western Kenyan county of Kisii to reaffirm his commitment to include this critical age group in his transformative agenda.
