XINHUA NEWS SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

Kenya urges Africa to reform dairy policies
to promote intra-regional trade

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Kenya on Wednesday called on African governments to reform their dairy policies in order to promote intra-regional trade.

Andrew Tuimur, Chief Administrative Secretary at the Ministry of Agriculture, told journalists in Nairobi that intra-regional trade is conspicuously low not only in dairy products but also in other agricultural commodities.

“Africa’s public and private sector therefore needs to have a dialogue to discuss and propose policies and other industry issues that need attention in order to stimulate intra-regional trade in dairy products,” Tuimur said during the Fourteenth African Dairy Conference and Exhibition.

The event that runs from Aug. 22 to 24 was organized by the Eastern and Southern African Dairy Association (ESADA) in collaboration with the ministry of agriculture and brought together delegates from 30 Africa countries.

The conference seeks to afford African dairy processors, services providers and industry suppliers a unique opportunity to showcase their products for benchmarking and to network and share knowledge and experiences.
