to Qualified for ‘19 Regional Crown

Coastweek -- The Kisauni Sub-County secondary school girl’s football champions, Hassan Joho Girls has vowed to make sure next year, they qualified for the Coast Region soccer crown.

The team head coach Dennis Isambi said they missed the Mombasa County crown by a whisker and he was confident the team to do better next year.

“We’ve started training in preparation for the 2019 games where we are aiming to win the regional trophy,” said Isambi.

Accompanied by the team manager Stella Divisha Oluoch, Isambi said most of the players are in form one and two and therefore, they will be playing for the team for the next two years.

“We are looking forward to retain our sub-county crown we won last month and later clinched the Mombasa County title which we failed to take this year after being beaten 1-0 by Mama Ngina Girls in the final,” said Isambi.

Stella who is also the school athletics team coach said they achieved a lot through the total support they are receiving from the school Principal Firdaus Mohamed.

“Our head teacher gave all sports teams’ morale and financial support and that is why we are sure to be at the top,” said Stella.

She said the girsl who are playing in the football team also joined with those who left the school to play for Hassan Joho Ladies FC which is taking part in the Mombasa County Women League.

“We want our team to be among the best in Coast Region and also some of our players to be selected to feature for the Kenya national team, Harambee Starlets,” said Stella.

She said they have joined the team in the league because they want their players to continue playing football even after finishing studies at the school and it is a way of making them refrain from involving themselves in bad habits.

One of the best football player is the team captain Antonina Kiti who is also an athlete said they are thankful for the principal and their teachers for making them involve themselves in playing football and other sports.

“I’m sure in a year or two, our school team is going to win the national football crown,” said Antonina.

At the Kisauni and Mombasa County sub-county athletics championships, Antonina won the 5 kilometre race and ended seventh during the regional games.

“I tried to win the Coast Region 5km race but finished seventh. I was disappointed but will train harder for me to win next year, aiming to be among athletes to participate in the national championship.

The football team players are Milka Nyambura, Lizy Umari, Gladys Kadzo, Ann Rama, Antonina Kiti, Christine Mwalimu, Salma Kazungu, Gloria Anderson, Janet Sadaka, Khadija Khamis, Grace Clera, Khadija Shee, Ramla Nguma, Vivian Mwakaranga and Dinice Luvimo.
