Tanzanian local bank to boost palm oil seeds production

DAR ES SALAAM, (Xinhua) -- The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) said on Wednesday it was working on a plan to improve palm oil cultivation in the country by supporting production of quality oil palm seeds.

Japhet Justine, TADB Acting Executive Director, said the move followed the government’s call for more palm oil cultivation in order to increase production of cooking oil in the east African nation, the second largest economy in East Africa.

Justine was briefing Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa on the various interventions that the bank was making to help boost the country’s agricultural sector.

According to Justine, TADB will collaborate with the Tanzania Agricultural Seed Agency (TASA) to produce quality oil palm seeds that will be sold at reasonable prices to farmers in Kigoma.
