NAIROBI (Xinhua) --
Kenya said on Thursday that preparations for
conducting the 2019 census have kicked off.
Henry Rotich, the
cabinet secretary of the National Treasury, told a county forum
in Nairobi that Kenya has embarked on the processes of
undertaking the 2019 Population and Housing Census.
“A pilot census will
soon be conducted in selected sub-location in 12 counties for a
period of seven days as part of best practices,” Rotich said
during the launch of the 2018 Statistical Abstract Report for
According to the
National Treasury, about 170,000 personnel will carry out the
census that takes places once every ten years.
Zachary Mwangi, the
Director General of Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS),
said the government has allocated about 180 million dollars for
census that will take place on the night of Aug. 24 and 25 next
Julius Muia, the
principal secretary of the National Treasury and Planning, said
that as per the Constitution, counties are expected to generate
statistics for their planning and development.
