Coastweek -- International Casinos announced that Mombasa Central M.P. Hon. Shariff Nassir would officially open Kenya’s third casino (after Nairobi and Mombasa) at Diani’s Leisure Lodge Hotel, in the presence of director Dr. Wilhelm Meister and general manager Fritz Gubler.

Brown Ondego, S.E.A.L. agency manager with African Mercantile Mombasa welcomed the new S.E.A.L. resident representative for East Africa Terry Engh, who was succeeding Capt. Petter F. Bjerkaas. Freight Forwarders confirmed that appointment of Sylvester Lichina as their new Coast area personnel manager. German East Africa line (DOAL) freighter ‘Tangama’ was dis-charging ten new ‘62-class’ locomotives as part of a very lucrative 56 engine contract ordered by the Kenya Railways Corporation from West Germany’s Thysson Henschel company’s Kassel workshops.

Deutsche Ost Afrika Line managing director Carl-Thomas Hubrich from Hamburg later hosted a shipboard luncheon attended by KPA deputy director Johnathan Mturi, Kenya Cargo Handling Services managing director Edward Halwenge, Kenya Railways chairman J.K. Njoroge, Kenya Railways managing director D.K. Ngini, Kenya Railways Mombasa (DTS) J.D. Omollo, M.V. ‘Tangama’ skipper Capt. Gustav Hagenah,  and Jos Hansen Nairobi managing director Joren Ohlssen.

United States Navy Middle East Force Commander Rear Admiral R.W. Chewning was visiting Mombasa aboard his flagship the frigate ‘U.S.S. Elmer Montgomery’.

British Airways confirmed that their ‘Enterprise Holidays’ programme would soon launch a year-round once-a-week charter flight Mombasa-London to cater to increased demand for Kenya beach/ safari tours.

Tourism Minister Hon. Mathews Ogutu was in Mahe, Seychelles, for Government discussions on trade, tourism, development of fisheries and protecting large sea mammals. He was accompanied by Ndhiwa M.P. Bhimji Shah took over from Kishore Mehta as new chairman of the Rotary Club of Mombasa. Swiss Consul Henri Burnier and Airtour Suisse representative Urs Steinacher jointly sponsored the Mombasa Skål Club luncheon attended by chairman John Byrne.

KENYA cinema was showing Gene Hackmann, Candice Bergmann and Richard Widmark in the thriller ‘Domino Principle’, NAAZ cinema still screened a ‘double bill’ of horror epics ‘Magic’ (a terrifying love story) and ‘The Pack’ (they’re not pets any more !), REGAL offered the cowboy epic ‘Guns Of The Magnificent Seven”, while at CHOX it was Sanjeev Kumar and Jaya Badhuri in ‘Naya Din Naya Raat’ (New Day New Night).
