KAMPALA Uganda (Xinhua) --
Uganda’s star athlete Stella Chesang hopes her
team will upset rivals at the 2018 African Championship
scheduled to be held Aug. 1-15 in Asaba, Nigeria.
Chesang told Xinhua
in an interview on Monday before the team left for the
championship that they are all prepared for the event.
“We have trained
well as a team and expect to return with several medals. I am
also optimistic that I can win another gold medal like I did in
the 10,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Australia,” Chesang
Moses Asonya, the
coach told Xinhua that although the team will miss star athletes
like Jacob Kiplimo, Janat Chemusto and Albert Chemutai because
of the injuries they have, the team will put up a good
Uganda will face
stiff competition from the likes of Kenya, Nigeria, South
Africa, Ethiopia and Eritrea.
The African Senior
Championships is a continental event organized by the
Confederation of African Athletics.

Shida Leni (200m/400m), Scovia Ayikoru (100m/200m), Lucy Aber
(javelin) and Josephine Lalam (javelin).
