NAIROBI (Xinhua) --
Trading at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE)
surged on Monday as the volumes moved doubled and turnover more
A total of 22
million shares valued at 11 million U.S. dollars was traded, up
from 10 million shares valued at 2.7 million dollars posted on
Friday last week.
All the market’s
indices, however, declined. The NSE 20 Share Index was down
11.70 points to stand at 3,308.75.
Similarly, the All
Share Index (NASI) shed 0.19 points to settle at 172.28 while
the NSE 25 Share index went down 6.13 points to stand at
Safaricom in the
telecom sector moved 11.4 million that represented 29 percent of
the day’s traded value.
The banking sector
accounted for 14 percent of the day’s traded value, with Kenya
Commercial Bank trading 2.3 million shares in the group.
The bond market, on
the other hand, had securities worth 8.5 million dollars
