XINHUA NEWS SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

THIRTY NINE YEARS' AGO -
Coastweek July 20 - 26, 1999:

Coastweek -- A GRAND opening ceremony was held at Gallo’s Restaurant, Diani, when nearly 100 invited guests and VIPs were invited to witness the newest taxi service on South Coast, wrote PATRICIA SCOTT.

Malibu Taxi Service had on display in the Diani Shopping Centre outisde their office, three bright yellow taxi cabs (with a fourth one due next week) with their uniformed drivers.

The cabs are air-conditioned, they are on radio call, and they offer a 24 hour service - at prices less than those charged by random existing taxis stationed along the coast road, and those based at the coast hotels.

Malibu Taxi Service is founded by Georg Karoly, and jointly owned with and run with Zubeda Ganguma, from their office complex in the Diani Shopping Centre, which also houses Malibu Safaris.

Mrs. Pushpa Haria, Mr. Haria and Mrs. Rekha Shavadia, Mrs. Sadhnan Doshi, Mrs. Illa Shah, Mr. Vinod Dattani and Mrs. Shah have worked hand-in-hand to raise money for the Shanzu Transitional Workshop for Disabled Girls. Mrs. D. P. Shah - Commissioner / Trainer, Coast, subsequently received a Cheque of Kshs. 90,000/- from Mrs. Pushpa Haria, Mr. Gulab Haria and Mrs. Rekha Shavadia in the presence of Kisauni D.O., Mr. Paul.

This money will be used to build the kitchen, store and dining hall.  They still needed Kshs. 1.5 Million to complete the project.

Mombasa water and power experts AQUIFER limited Director Geoff Turner informed Coastweek:

“We can provide Domestic desalination units capable of handling most types of regional borehole or well water.

These units will give upto 2,400 Iitres per day of fresh, pure water. Bacteria and salinity free, the water can be put to immediate and SAFE use.  The units are compact, well constructed, and simple to use.

Our Seawater desalination plants are more expensive than their ‘domestic’ cousins but with existing service lives well in excess of seven years, they are cost effective.

If sea water or highly saline water is all you have, these units are the answer to your water problems.

On Friday July 16 at 12.30 hours African Express Airways Jet Service took off from Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport for Kisumu via Eldoret Airport.

This marked the beginning of new Express Jet-Service that offers Kenyan travellers, in particular, and the general traveller a different scheduled Tri-Jet-Service linking Mombasa and Nairobi to prominent business centers of Eldoret and Kisumu.
