Dar es Salaam Host 35th Lohana Sports and Cultural Festival

Coastweek-- Dar es salaam Lohana community under the chairmanship of Navinbhai Kanabar is all set to host the 35th Lohana Sports and Cultural festival during the forthcoming Christmas period 2018, confirmed Sunny Ruparelia; convener for Public Relations (PR).

This is the 6th time Dar es Salaam will host a festival, last being in 2012.

Dar es Salaam is the largest city and economic capital of Tanzania.

Located in a quiet bay off the Indian Ocean coast.

The festival will be held between 22 nd to 25th December 2018.

The host Centre Dar es Salaam Lohana Community - through the Sports and Cultural Organizing Committee, is planning and working hard to win the hearts and strengthen the bond with its colourful and dynamic representation; said Sonal Ganatra(Director of Public Relations (PR).

The Seven centres; Mombasa, Nairobi, Nakuru, Kisumu, Kampala, Mwanza and Dar es Salaam are expected to participate in this festival, which is known to be the largest Lohana gathering.

The festival was started in Kisumu during the Easter Holidays of 1974. D.P Mandavia, Subhash Modi and Jayantbhai Badiani are the founder members.

After the success of the last festival in December 2016 in the town of Kisumu; Kenya, the Dar es Salaam committee have got some exciting things planned for their home town festival.

They promise for it to be bigger and better than before.

Mr. Pulin Manek is chairing the 2018 festival and is joined by his organising committee Dr Vishal Lalseta(vice chairman), Situ Ramji(festival secretary), Kishen Somaiya (festival treasurer), Punit Rughani (festival sports convener). The team also includes; Leena Lakhani, Nishita Davda, Shilpa Kara, Alpa Pattani, Bijal Mehta, Dr Sabrina Lalseta, Ankeet Modi, Puneet Mehta, Amal Somaiya, Dr Malav Manek, Vijay Jobanputra, Samir Manek, Prahlad Nathwani, Pratish Kara, Sunny Ruparelia, Krupa Vithlani, Amrish Rughani, Bindu Sangani, Nikesh Mehta, Annd karia, Chandni Mehta , and Kishore Modi.

Furthermore there are other members who are a key to the LSCF executive committee whose are appointed by respective centres.

These include; Vinay Dawda (Secretary General), Manish Rughani (Immediate Past SG), Anand Gadhia (Director of Cultural and Decorations), Gopal Savani (Director of Sports), Raj Pabari (Deputy Director of Sports), Dharam Datta (Director of Logistics and Venues), Ashish Lakhani (Director of registration and information), Deep Bhayani (Director of Medical and Emergencies), Nishita Davda (Director of Accomodations), Sonal Ganatra (Director of PR), Chirag Chotai (Director of Transport and Security), Sachin Sedani (Deputy Director  of Transport and Security), Surendra Anadkat (Director of Special Events), Neal Karia (Director of Voluteers Convener), Ravi Sodha (Director of Trophies), Hemal Majithia (Director of Catering), Hemal Sachdev (Director of Finance and Budget), Aatish Sachdev (Director of IT and Communications).

Nayan Chotai and Kirti Morjaria will also be apart of the committee.

During the three day sports and cultural festival there will be various friendly and competitive games held; including badminton, cricket, darts, football, golf, marathon, snooker, squash, swimming, table tennis, tennis, throw ball and volleyball.

Before and during the festival everyone will be able to connect to the web portal ( to be informed about the latest on the festival, online registration for the sports and culture participants and more; said Ankeet Modi (The IT Convener).

The funding for this festival has been undertaken by contributions from all East African Lohana Centres.
