XINHUA NEWS SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

Portugal feeling nerves ahead of their crucial duel with Iran

KRATOVO Russia (Xinhua) -- Portugal are feeling on edge ahead of their crucial final World Cup group match against Iran on Monday, defender Ruben Dias said on Saturday.

The European champions drew 3-3 with Spain in their first match before beating Morocco 1-0 on Wednesday.

They can finish top of Group B if they defeat Iran in Saransk, pending the result of Spain’s clash with Morocco on the same day.

"Anxiety exists because it’s a World Cup and we are European champions and we want to get through the group and go as far as possible," Dias told a news conference at Portugal’s training base.

"But it’s all relative.

"We have really good players and we all have the same objective.

"Sometimes things don’t work out the way you want ... but it’s a World Cup."

Iran sends policemen to Russia to serve nationals during World Cup

TEHRAN Iran (Xinhua) -- Iran has sent five police officers to Russia to serve Iranian nationals during the ongoing World Cup football competitions, Tasnim news agency reported Saturday.

"Our colleagues went to Russia prior to the start of the games and will be present in the country during the tournament," Hadi Shirzad, head of the Iranian police international department, told Tasnim.

The forces dispatched to Russia are fluent in English and fully acquainted with police and security issues, Shirzad was quoted as saying.

He said Iranian fans in Russia can contact the officers in case they face any accidents or emergency situations.
