wet conditions, the Lota Motorsports superstar maintained
his dogged campaign in search of the coveted title and
promised to be back stronger and better following flashes
of brilliance at the Mombasa Cement farm course.
Second overall was
Hapz Sagoo who sat with Paras Pandya in a Subaru N10 with Yalfa
Rally teammate Ammar “Bushy” Haq sealing the podium dash in a
similar car make.
It was a bad day at
the office for Mitsubishi drivers Izhar Mirza (Coast Pekee
Evolution9) and Piero Cannobio (Evolution X) who failed to
master the demanding conditions.
Mirza aka Izzy
retired on the frost stage after damaging his sump-guard while
Piero broke his crankshaft to retire on the fourth stage.
Adnan Din was all smiles and this is what he had to say: “We
want to win the Mombasa championship for LOTA this year and
hopefully we can achieve that.
“We have started off
on the right note with two wins out of two. We are now getting
it right with the new Subaru hybrid and the results are proving
that, Naushad has been superb this season so far in the new car
and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.
“Round two was an
amazing outing for us with MMC doing a great job organizing a
memorable event in very wet conditions.
“Thank you to Mr.
Hasu of Mombasa cement for the continued support and well-done
to all teams and crews,” said Naushad’s co-driver Adnan.
Hapz returned to the
cockpit after a nine months hiatus but showed no signs of rust.
“We had not sat in a
rally car since Eldoret 2017 and even had a new navigator in
Paras Pandya. I must admit I enjoyed every bit of the action as
I were itching to rev coming from a long layoff.

“We landed heavily
on the opening stage and damaged the sump. All in all it was a
very nice track; kudod to our chairman Roy Mckenzie and sponsors
Mombasa Cemement. It was good to get people out in the rain
after a first dry rally,” Izhar said.
Victor Okundi said: “The track was fantastic. I can’t thank
Mombasa Cement Limited enough for amazing location.
“Good work to the
organizing team. The long stretch at the top was too tempting.
“The results too
were on point, and teamwork in educating the new co drivers and
controllers was unmatched, a confirmation that I’m indeed in the
best motor club in Kenya.”
