KHARTOUM, (Xinhua) -- The 30th Regional Conference for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) kicked off sessions Monday in the Sudanese capital Khartoum.

Officials from some 50 countries and 38 African ministers of agriculture are taking part in the conference besides 450 participants including senior African technicians and experts in addition to five countries which participate as monitors, as well as 17 international organizations.

The five-day conference is convened under the theme “Sustainable development of agriculture and food systems in Africa: improving the means of production and the creation of decent and attractive employment for youth.”

“Our main motto is to provide food for all and food security for all. This food security cannot be achieved by just talking or reviewing experiences, but needs finding mechanisms and means on how to maintain hardworking, whether in agriculture or animal production,” said Bushara Juma Aro, Sudan’s Animal Resources Minister, when addressing the opening of the conference.

He stressed the importance of combating climate change and drought, and limiting armed conflicts.
