Kenyan blue chip index closes week lower amid declined turnover   

NAIROBI  (Xinhua) -- The Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) ended the week lower on Friday as equity turnover and the blue chip index declined.

Turnover stood at 8 million U.S. dollars on a volume of 21.2 million shares, compared with 10.1 million dollars from 21 million shares on Thursday.

The NSE 20 Share Index declined considerably to close at 3,710.97, down from 3,719.91 points, pulled down by British America Tobacco, KenolKobil, and Kenya Power.

The NSE All Share Index was up 0.03 points to close at 180.78 points. NSE 25 was down 1.96 points to close at 4,508.45, as market capitalization gained to close at 26.2 billion dollars.

Safaricom moved 5 million shares at a flat average of 0.29 dollars to emerge as the top-traded stock.

Other top movers were Kenya Commercial bank, Equity Bank, NSE itself, and Co-operative Bank, trading 4.1 million, 3.1 million, 2.2 million and 1.8 million shares respectively.

Bond turnover fell 36 percent to stand at 28 million dollars, down from 44 million dollars on Thursday.
