AGA KHAN EDUCATION SERVICES GIFTS FOR MAYOR’S IDD BARAZA

Coastweek -- HIS WORSHIP the Mayor of Mombasa, Councillor Najib Balala organised the Mayor’s Idd Baraza at the Treasury Square, Mombasa which was attended by a large cross-section of the citizens of Mombasa, and included dignitaries like the Provincial Commissioner, senior officials from all Muslim Communities, Muslim politicians as well as prominent businessmen.

The delegation from Aga Khan Council for Mombasa and Aga Khan Education Service, Kenya at the Baraza included Mr. Noorudin Tejpar Chairman AKES, K Mombasa Local Committee and the Acting Headteacher, Aga Khan Junior Academy Mrs. Brenda Menezes and Dr. Rashid Lalani.

Dr. Rashid Lalani addressed the gathering on the subject of “Muslim Ummah, Brotherhood and Unity”.

Immediately after the Mayor’s and Chief Kadhi’s speeches, Mr. Noorudin Tejpar made a donation towards the ’Mayors Christmas tree, Idd-ul-Fitr, and Diwali Fund’, followed by a donation of books, clothes and toys by Mrs. Brenda Menezes of the Aga Khan Junior Academy.

All AKES, K Schools in Mombasa have made more collection of books, clothes, toys and other similar donations to be donated towards this fund.

MORE WATER FOR ‘POLICE’ -  A bore hole had been sunk at Makupa Police Station through the ‘Zainabiya Water Project’ of the Golden Crescent Group Mombasa District, at a cost of Kshs. 200,000/=,  donated in Memory of the Late Mr. and Mrs. Mohamedali Meghji by their son, Amirali Meghji.

The bore hole was inaugurated jointly by the Provincial Police Officer, Mr. Japeth Mwania and the Governor of Golden Crescent Group Crescent Group Mr  Abbas Khaku, assisted by donor Mr. Amirali Meghji, which is for use by Police Officers and Members of the public at the Police Staff quarters.

Speaking at the function Mr. Mwania thanked the organisation and donor for boosting the water supply at the Police Station and urged other donors to help the force with the provision of basic facilities to ease the job of police in keeping law and order.

The function was well attended by leaders and members of the Community and contingent of Police and Inspectors.

Speakers included the Deputy Director of Mombasa District Crescent Ahmed G. Daya, the Governor of Golden Crescent Group Crescent Abbas Khaku and brother Sajjad G. Mussa.

Earlier the Group’s Project Co-ordinator Crescent Ahmed Karim delivered the welcome address and thanked the PPO Mr. Mwania for allowing the Group to sink the bore hole in the Makupa Police Station Yard.
