XINHUA NEWS SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

Former Kenyan footballer Origi leaves
Norwegian club after five years

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Former Harambee Stars goalkeeper Arnold Origi has terminated his contract with Norwegian club Lillestrom FC.

Origi, who swapped his Kenyan passport for a Norwegian one, will have to shop elsewhere for a club before March 2018, the start of the Norwegian domestic season.

Origi and Lillestrom Sportsklubb reached an agreement to terminate his contract, ending their five-year relationship. The former Kenyan is now free to find a new club.

“Every story, every adventure must have an ending. My story and adventure with Lillestrom has come to an end. It’s been five years that has had its positives and negatives. I have had the best moments in my career as football player at this amazing and historic club,” Origi said in an emotional message to his fans.

Origi served as Kenya’s top goalkeeper for over five years and went abroad to seek greener pastures and has succeeded where a lot of his peers have failed.

“I have developed tremendously as goalkeeper. The passion of the club’s proud supporters helped me develop a passion for winning football matches like never before. This has played a huge part in my development as player, a passion that will for sure stay with me,” he added.

Origi developed a deep bond with Lillestrom and in December attended trials at English Premier League side Crystal Palace, which did not yield a transfer.
