BERLIN Germany (Xinhua) -- Not for the
first time Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s behavior is an insoluble
mystery to his club Borussia Dortmund.
favors offered by the 2012 German Champion the series of
provocations by the Gabon rooted forward don’t seem to end.
After the third suspension due to disciplinary reasons within
18 months and under three different coaches the future of the
28-year-old striker seems uncertain.
Several pundits assume the striker is trying to blackmail his
side to soon depart despite his until 2021 valid contract.
Clubs in Europe and China are rumored to be interested.
According to the Berlin-based newspaper Bild Premier League
side, FC Arsenal is about to make an offer for Aubameyang
talking about a quick deal until the end of January 2018.
Many in Dortmund feel reminded of the behavior of Ousmane
Dembele who affronted the Blacks and Yellow’s until his move to
Spanish giant FC Barcelona was secured.
The French striker skipped training and left the country not
informing Dortmund about his destination.
Last Saturday Aubameyang missed a team meeting insisting he
forgot about it as he left right after the last training session
in advance of the game against VfL Wolfsburg.
Before, the forward had traveled abroad for shopping and
party reasons without permission.
Teammates reported he was repeatedly late for practice.
"We have reached the point we can’t tolerate his behavior
"He is a mystery to us; I don’t know what is in his mind,"
Dortmund’s sports director Michael Zorc commented.
"For years things went well, now, since about a year, he
changed his attitude.
"He could not tell us why," Zorc stressed.
Zorc announced Aubameyang would be fined by the club and no
more extras will be accepted.
Recently Aubameyang was allowed to attend the ceremony for
Africa’s Footballer of The Year and join the team’s training
camp three days late.
The striker turned up in time but accompanied by his father
and two brothers.
The trio checked in on the team’s hotel without the club’s
Current Dortmund coach Peter Stoeger said Aubameyang is
offered the last chance now to return to the team.
"We don’t believe his comments he forgot about the team
"It was an important meeting, the entire squad was around as
it was the meeting in advance of the second half of the season,"
the Austrian coach emphasized.
"My impression was he is not fully focused on our challenges.
I don’t know about the reasons," Stoeger said.
Stoeger said Aubameyang’s behavior endangers the team spirit.
Before, many team members talked about being annoyed by the
Recently team captain Marcel Schmelzer said the squad
wouldn’t tolerate anyone offending the team’s hygiene.
Several German media now assume Aubameyang could leave as
early as in January 2018 as the transfer window in Germany is
open until the end of the month.
Others predict the striker will leave next summer as Dortmund
depends on his goals to secure the qualification for the
2018/2019 Champions League campaign.
So far rumours talked about up to 70 million euro’s transfer
Aubameyang scored 13 league goals in 15 games, four in six
Champions League matches and three goals in one German Cup game.
"The question is when to react?" Zorc asked.
"After all, he is involved in 50 percent of all our goals."
While the star striker is causing ongoing trouble, the Blacks
and Yellow are announced to sign Swiss international Manuel
Akanji soon. Borussia is said to pay 18 million euro for the
22-year-old defender from FC Basel.
"We are optimistic to announce the deal soon as only details
need to be solved. He is a deal for this season and the next
years," Zorc stressed.

German Bundesliga to kick
off second half
By Oliver Trust BERLIN Germany
(Xinhua) -- Bayern Munich top the
Bundesliga table 11 points clear of their nearest rival. In the
same time, bottom of the table FC Cologne has only managed to
score six points. These are the extremes that kick off the
second half of the 2017/2018 Bundesliga season.
2017 Bundesliga Champion Bayern Munich is in a relatively
comfortable position ahead of its curtain-raiser against Bayer
Leverkusen on Friday evening.
At this point, the fifth consecutive national title seems to
be just a formality for the Bavarians.
Down at the bottom of the table, lowly FC Cologne needs a
miracle to avoid relegation.
The future of Bayern Munich manager Jupp Heynckes is still
under discussion at the Allianz.
Club leaders Uli Hoeness and Karl-Heinz Rummenigge are
optimistic that they’ll be able to convince the 72-year-old
Heynckes to stay for another year, as the Bavarians have not
been able to find a suitable replacement.
On top of this, the futures of stars Franck Ribery, Arjen
Robben, and Arturo Vidal are uncertain.
German international Jerome Boateng has warned his side to
stay focused despite the 11 point lead.
"A bad start, a difficult second game and you get under
pressure. In the first half we were eight points behind
Dortmund, now we are 11 points away.
"Things can quickly change," the 29-year-old said.
Bayern striker Thomas Mueller demanded a better performance
in the second half of the season.
"There have been too many games we just narrowly won.
"There has been too much cheating through in the last games,
what we need is more dominance," the German international said.
Against Bayer Leverkusen, Heynckes will have to replace
Robert Lewandowski due to a knee injury. Sandro Wagner will
replace the Pole and lead the line for Bayern.
Cologne striker and former Bayern Munich professional Claudio
Pizarro is hoping for a possible miracle as several established
clubs are in danger of relegation.
In 2013, FC Augsburg turned things around with only nine
points at the halfway mark of the season, but Cologne will need
to better that performance if they want to stay in the
There is plenty of action elsewhere as FC Schalke 04,
Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen, RB Leipzig, Borussia
Moenchengladbach all battle for Champions League qualification
while VfL Wolfsburg, SC Freiburg, VfB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz,
Werder Bremen and Hamburger SV try to cement their positions in
top flight German football.
Things are tight this year, as second placed Schalke is only
four points clear of Eintracht Frankfurt in eighth.
Schalke faces Leipzig on Saturday evening and fans are eager
to see if Schalke’s ongoing renaissance will continue.
New manager Domenico Tedesco will have to prove that his side
has the staying power to continue its impressive performances
from first half of the season.
Schalke has been known to be inconsistent in the past, but
they have attracted attention with their excellent team spirit
and pragmatic style.
The progress of Borussia Dortmund is also one of the big
stories coming out of the Bundesliga, as the team battles to
rekindle its team spirit and try to be less reliant on their
talisman Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
The Gabon international raised quite a few eyebrows at the
club when he turned up to the club’s winter training camp in a
Lately Aubameyang’s behavior has been causing headaches for
manager Peter Stoeger, and there are rumors that this might be
the striker’s last season at the club.
Aubameyang was the top scorer in the Bundesliga last season
with 31 goals, so it’s more than likely that Stoeger will need
his top striker to contribute if he wants his side to secure
Champions League qualification.
Meanwhile, the situation could not be worse for Bundesliga
heavyweights Werder Bremen (16th) and Hamburg (17th).
In 2014/2015 Hamburg successfully fought off relegation but
since then, things have not really improved at the club due to
drama behind the scenes.
