XINHUA NEWS SERVICE REPORTS FROM THE AFRICAN CONTINENT

Kenyan Andrew Amonde looking forward to rugby World Series

NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Kenya’s captain Andrew Amonde is hopeful he will pass the medical test and be fit for call up ahead of Kenya’s trip to Australia for the third leg of the World Series.

“The injury is healed and I am now building on the muscles with the physio and gym work. By the time the team returns to action in Australia, I will be fit,” said Amonde Tuesday in Nairobi.

During his two months absence, Kenya have had dismal show in the first twp rounds of the IRB World Series in Cape Town and Dubai.

However, coach Innocent Simiyu will be happy to have a selection headache as his skipper plots to return to action in Melbourne on January 26.

The groin injury, which required a hernia surgery in November, ruled out Amonde from the Kenya team for two months but he is able to carry out light training as he monitors its rehabilitation.

Amonde believes that South Africa and Canada are some of the teams which will present them with stern test in the series.

“Our main focus is not even Uganda because they are a small team trying to get back to the circuit and they still have a long way to go. Most of their players have been playing locally, so they are not our main concern. Our major worry is South Africa and Canada.”
