NAIROBI, (Xinhua) --
All the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) key indices
rose slightly on Wednesday as prices of selected stocks went up.
The indicative NSE 20 Share Index closed the day at 3,825.47 from
3,820.74 on Monday. The NSE All share Index (NASI), on the other
hand, ended the day at 172.73, a rise from 170.80 points while the
NSE 25 Share Index stood at a high of 4,410.91.
The 20 Share Index was mainly boosted by Kenya Airways, which surged
136 percent from 0.02 U.S. dollars to 0.12 dollars when it resumed
trading following a two weeks suspension.
The suspension was to wait for a share split and the consolidation
of the company’s stock as part of the airlines’ capital
Others stocks that went up during the session by between 0.6 percent
and 3 percent were Centum, Scan group, CFC Stanbic and Cooperative
Safaricom, Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB), Kenya Power, Equity Bank and
Kenya Airways accounted for over 80 percent the total turnover.
Equity turnover surged to 8.5 million dollars on a volume of 28
million shares up from 26 million worth 5.7 million dollars.
