Uganda to host Africa Schools Badminton Championship

KAMPALA Uganda (Xinhua) -- Uganda has been selected to host the 2017 Africa Schools Badminton Championship slated to start Dec. 17-22 in the capital Kampala.

Simon Mugabi, the Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Badminton Association told Xinhua on Friday that the event will bring together top playing schools on the continent.

“We are happy because our good record in hosting international events forced the Badminton Confederation of Africa selected Uganda to host this Championship,” Mugabi said.

He said the event is for the top two schools in each country that performed well in the boys and girls national Championships.

“This event is very important because it give the young players a platform to compete at international level as they also get the exposure to develop as better players,” added Mugabi.

Schools from Mauritius and hosts Zambia dominated the event last year in Lusaka.
