The South Coast Residents’
Association (SCRA) joined Ocean Conservancy in their
International Beach Cleanup Day on 16th September 2017.
An SCRA spokeswoman noted:
"We were overwhelmed by the number of people, organisations,
hotels and school children, including people from both Nairobi
and Mombasa, who joined us for this important day.
"SCRA covered two kilometres in Tiwi and then from the Kongo
Mosque up to Gazi and collected 1,165kg (over one ton) of trash
from the beach and we estimated that over 500 people including
the three people Kwale County Government Department of Tourism,
Investment, Promotion and ICT,participated.
"All this trash had to then be sorted out: plastic bottles,
recyclable material, flip flops and waste.
"We would like to thank everybody for joining hands with us."
