MAMPONG, Ghana, (Xinhua) --
Chinese groups in Ghana on Saturday donated 10
sets of computers and accessories to the Demonstration School
for the Deaf in Mampong, some 35 km north of the capital, Accra.
The donation was
made on behalf of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Ghana
Association of Chinese Society by their president Tang Hong to
support the training of the students in ICT in the special
Aside from the
donation, a nine-member Chinese medical team also visited the
school to provide free physical screening to teachers, students
and residents in the nearby communities.
“We hope that our
gesture of friendship with communities such as we are doing
today will add to the deepening friendship and relationship that
exists between the two great countries,” Tang said.
A senior official of
the Ghana Education Service in the area Anthony Koranteng Akwafo
thanked the Chinese team for the gestures, saying the computers
will support the training of the students in ICT so that they
can integrate in the technological world to advance their
The school was
founded fifty years ago to educate deaf and deaf-blind children
to become independent members in their communities. It now has
419 students in five departments, from kindergarten to
vocational and technical school.
