NAIROBI (Xinhua) -- Some 71
million shares worth 12.5 million U.S. dollars were traded at the Nairobi
Securities Exchange (NSE) Monday as the bourse registered its best trading day
was boosted by solid volumes and active trading of Safaricom shares, lifting
total trading up 222 percent from 23 million shares worth 3.9 million dollars
Monday’s turnover, trading had hit a high of 11 million dollars on a volume of
71 million shares on Feb. 9.
telecom operator Safaricom, the day’s biggest mover, traded 51 million shares
valued at 8.8 million dollars at a new high of 0.18 dollars, representing 68
percent of the traded volumes.
generator Kengen came in second with 11.5 million shares at 0.06 dollars, while
Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) followed third moving 3.9 million shares at a peak
of 0.29 dollars.
NSE 20 Share Index was up 7.45 points to stand at 2,970.53 while the All Share
Index (NASI) gained 2.08 points to stand at 124.55. The NSE 25 Share Index
added 50.78 points to stand at 3,281.30.
market witnessed improved activity with bonds worth 36 million dollars
transacted compared to 14 million in previous session.
