Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has joined Arabian Gulf League champions
Al Ahli on a one-year loan deal from Chinese Super League side
The attacker returns to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) just 12
months after signing for Shanghai SIPG where he failed to meet the
huge expectations chiefly due to recurring injuries that kept him
away from playing at 100 percent.
Ahli, nicknamed the Red Knights, winners of the 2015/2016 Arabian
Gulf League, is a fierce rival of Al Ain, where Gyan spent four
productive years between 2012 and mid-2015.
The 30-year-old scored 128 goals in 123 matches for Al Ain, making
him an instant league legend.
He won three league titles, scoring 95 goals in 83 league matches in
a four-year period.
In 2014, Gyan won the Asian Champions League top scorer award with
“The move will be controversial because of the heated nature of
games between the two sides but the Ghana captain will relish it,”
said a statement on the players’ website.
