National Beach Soccer Team Trains for Return Match Against Ghana

Coastweek -- Harambee Sand Stars team of 20 players is currently train under Rajab Babu in preparation for their return qualifying match of the Africa Cup of Nations against Ghana on September 18.

All the 15 players who represented the country in the first leg tie played at Pirates Beach in Mombasa last two weeks were retained but Babu called five others to train and fight for the trip to Accra.

The 15 players are Daiddo Manasse, Rajab Chai Hamisi, Mohamed Hamisi Musa, Farid Mbwana, Madi Hassan and Paul Kavula,  Abdulkadir Mohamed, Fahd Nassir, Mohamed “Messi” Said, Mudhaffar Swaleh, Patrick Kimani, Mwinyi A Manzu, Victor Wawire, Omar Karisa and Abduswamad Abdalla.

The additional five players are Mohamed Hassan and Omar Bongi from Ulinzi Stars, Alfred Oluoch of Malindi United, Kyuli Rajab of Mombasa and Abdillahi Mohamed Abdillahi who played for the team during the two matches against Tanzania last year.

“We want to shock our opponents because we are strengthening the team to play hard and win the return match. We can beat our opponents at their own home turf,” Babu told sports journalists.

Abdillahi was one of the players during last year’s international tournament held in Malindi where Kenya won the trophy after registering victories against Uganda, Zanzibar and Kenya ‘B’.

The national beach football vice-chairman, Gabriel Mghendi said immediately after the match against Ghana, the soccer beach committee will meet to plan way forward.

“We are to meet to delibarate how we can organise leagues,” said Mghendi.

Meanwhile, Nichodemus Odipo scored a goal and set up another one as Coast Stima electrocuted Kangemi Brinks 2-0 in the FKF Division Zone A league match played at Kabete Technical in Nairobi.

The 2012 FKF South Coast Provincial League top scorer opened the score sheet in the 11th minute and Mwalimu Matano wrapped the match at half an hours mark.

With the win Coast Stima are placed second position on the 14 team zone A league with 29 points, two behind league leaders Kibera Black Stars.

Meanwhile in other Zone A matches played over the weekend Magarini spanked leaders Kibera Black Stars 1-0 in the match played at Malindi.

Michael Mandela scored the lone goal in the 75th minute.

Elsewhere at Githunguri Stadium, Fresha shared the spoils with a barren draw against Vegpro,  Green Berrets went down 1-2 against  Ken Gen at the same venue.

Strathmore University beat Fortune Sacco 3-1 at Strathmore, Administration Police prosecuted Meru Tigers 4-0 at Savannah Complex and Mumbi Nationale humbled Savannah Complex 1-0 at Thika Stadium.
