BRAZZAVILLE, (Xinhua) --
South Africa’s Jacob Maliekal and Kate Foo Kune
(Mauritius) are the gold medal winners of the 2015 All Africa
Games for men and women’s singles respectively.
Maliekal who won
gold at the 2011 Games in Maputo, Mozambique dispatched his
fellow countryman on Prakash Vijayanath on Wednesday 21-17,
“It feels really
good to win a second straight gold medal in the All Africa
Games,” the South African told Xinhua.
Vijayanath who upset
Africa’s top seed and the 2011 Games silver medalist Edwin
Ekiring from Uganda at the semi-final stage failed to match his
“I’m happy that I
have still managed to win silver,” said Vijayanath who is
ranked third in Africa.
There was a major
upset in the women’s singles when Kune stopped Gabriel Grace
21-16, 21-19 to win gold.
The Nigerian who is
top ranked in Africa and won the 2011 Games gold failed to get
the right strategy to stop her opponent who played a highly
Kune settled for a
silver medal in the women’s doubles when she paired with Yeldy
Marie Louison to suffer defeat to the Seychelles pair of
Juliette Ah-Wan and Allisen Camille 20-22, 21-18, 14-21.
South Africa also
won both the gold and silver medals in the mixed doubles with
Andries Malan and Jennifer Fry stopping Willem Viljoen/ Michelle
Butler-Emmett 21-17, 23-21.
Malan picked another
gold medal when he played alongside Willem Viljoen to beat the
Egyptian pair of Ali Ahmed El Khateeb and Abdelrahman Kashkal
