Siginon Group Expands Container Base In Miritini

Coastweek-- Since the year 2013, the Kenyan economy has experienced a positive year on year growth.

This has provided a favourable environment for investment and facilitated business expansion.

As such, Siginon Group, a source to doorstep Logistics Company has invested Kes. 550 million to extend its business line with the opening of Siginon CFS; a 13 acres container base in Miritini on the outskirts of Mombasa.

Elkana Khayo, Siginon CFS Operations Manager adds “The outskirts location of the container base is facilitated by the need to reduce traffic jams caused by trucks while delivering or collecting cargo within the city of Mombasa.

“It is also a convenient location for cargo and pick and drop zones for transporters ferrying cargo to or from Nairobi and beyond.”

With a capacity of 8,500 containers, Siginon CFS has been tailor made to exclusively handle containers and container handling related services such as container stuffing and de-stuffing, customs verification and duty collection.

The container base handles 20 and 40 foot containers including general purpose, open top, ventilated, skeleton, flat rack, refrigerated containers, motor vehicles, machinery, project cargo, steel and dry bulk cargo such as rice, sugar, fertilizer among others.

Elkana adds “Since commencement of our operations, business at the container base has grown steadily.

“We recently handled steel for China Road and Bridge Corporation (CRBC) for the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project and this has boosted our business position and cut a niche for us in the industry.”

To boost service delivery the Siginon CFS has invested in equipment such as reach stackers to ensure no dwell time for trucks when offloading or loading cargo, forklifts for efficient handling of steel and loose cargo/packages as well as multiple plugging points for refrigerated containers.

The yard also includes 3 warehouses to accommodate over 18,000 metric tons of loose bulk cargo.

Elkana adds “Cargo security is a key priority for us.

"Siginon CFS is equipped with ultra-modern state of the art security details to ensure security our clients’ cargo while in the yard.”

Siginon CFS is part of the Siginon Group a source to doorstep logistics company that offers transport, customs clearance, warehousing, sea freight, air freight, project cargo handling and ground handling services in Nairobi, Mombasa and Eldoret to serve customers in the East Africa and Great Lakes region.
