MOMBASA TAMARIND LEADS COAST IN
MARKING 'WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY'

pollution along the Kenyan Coast is
impacting negatively on marine life

Coastweek - - The Mombasa Tamarind will yet again participate in cleaning the environment to mark world environment day.

It is also a continuation to its efforts of maintaining a clean environment.

Every year Tamarind steps up to lead in environment cleaning exercise.

The event scheduled for June 7 will see the involvement of Mombasa Tamarind staff, Community Based organizations, students, and locals.

The event coincides with this years World Environment Day that will be marked on June 5.

More than 100 people are expected to participate in the beach cleanup which will take place along Tamarind and Bahari beach.

The Tamarind village Manager Mr Hassan Feisal said the exercise is aimed at creating awareness on the importance of keeping the environment clean.

According to Feisal, marine pollution along the Kenyan Coast is impacting negatively on people’s health apart from endangering marine life.

He said marine pollution is putting the lives of people in danger citing needles abandoned by drug users along the shores.

He expressed disappointment at the manner in which raw sewage and other rubbish is being dupmed or directed to the ocean.

“Its so common nowadays for children to get ear and eye infections after swimming in the waters”, said Feisal.
