EU NAVFOR -- As the beginning of November comes, the European Union Naval Force continues to repress piracy off the coast of Somalia. The Italian, Spanish and Dutch warships have been present, throughout the area of operations, deterring acts of Piracy and helping local maritime communities develop their livelihoods. They have also assisted with medical aid to the victims of recent bomb attacks in Mogadishu. The ITS Fasan, ESPS Rayo, HNLMS Rotterdam and Maritime Patrol Aircraft from Spain and Germany work together night and day responding to incidents and maintaining a presence during this inter-monsoon period to suppress acts of piracy in this strategic economic maritime corridor. HNLMS Rotterdam Dutch sailors on exercise with Kenya Navy | Coastweek

MOMBASA - Kenya navy sailors practise searching captured pirates [left] and personal combat training [right]. Sailors from EU Naval Force Dutch warship HNLMS Rotterdam have exercised with 14 members of the Kenyan Navy based in Mombasa. Training between the forces included, a practical introduction to Combat Boat operations using the Swedish embarked ‘CB-90’ and the Dutch Fast Raiding Interception Craft. Further workshops included evidence handling, friendly approach techniques, personal searches and basic first-aid. Ongoing interactions such as these between European Union and local maritime forces are essential for maintaining close relationships across the maritime community, creating a safer environment for seafarers and sailors alike.   MOMBASA (Xinhua) -- Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway passenger train is seen while on a test run crossing the new Mazeras Railway Bridge. Work on the multi billion shilling China-funded construction project is almost finished as a Kenyan official said the work was now "98 percent completed." During the implementation of phase one of the SGR project, over 25,000 local employees secured jobs as technicians and supervisors.
